Our older daughter’s room was cute, but there was nothing special or unique about it. The walls were all plain white, and although I love white walls, the room needed some personality! We knew we wanted to keep her bedding the same since it was less than a year old. She has rainbow sheets from Crate & Kids, and we also switch to Cheetah sheets from Target. Her bedspread is a muted pink waffle weave. Pink is her absolute favorite color, and she loves cats of all kinds. My only stipulation when picking a color for her accent wall was that it couldn’t be pink (that would be too much pink with her pink bedspread), and it had to have a color that matched one of the colors in her rainbow sheets. Natalie chose “lavender purple”. We went to Home Depot and picked out a purple that matched the purple in her rainbow sheets. The purple she chose is called Lavender Cloud by Behr.
I knew I wanted to do board and batten for her accent wall. But I didn’t want normal board and batten….so we found a design that has a large and small wood stripe in the pattern. After my husband painted the finished board and batten, the purple color instantly gave me “Monica and Rachel’s apartment on Friends” vibes….and I’m here for it ๐๐. We also decided to do a picture ledge at the top. I got photo frames from Target and we picked out some wall prints on Etsy that went with the theme of her room/had things she was interested in. We chose a Cheetah print, a rainbow, solar system, a boho sun, a cute saying.

After my husband completed the purple board and batten, I put her pictures up on the ledge above the bed. But I felt the white part of the wall still looked a little plain and it needed something else. I researched wallpapers, paint, etc. and finally landed on doing these wall decals found on Etsy. Natalie chose metallic gold for the decals and I think it’s the perfect touch of gold to the room! We used our laser level to help with placing evenly on the wall. These decals were exactly what the wall needed to feel complete.

Natalie’s dresser was already finished prior to our bedroom re-do, so we didn’t need to touch that. We had already updated her dresser and nightstand knobs to these adorable gold hexagon knobs. They are seriously the cutest!

Natalie loves drawing and writing, so we decided to put a desk in her room. I know this will be used for years to come. I got a desk from Target and a mid century modern chair from Amazon. We also knew she wanted book ledges since she loves to read her cat fact books. My husband built the book ledges (previous blog post on how to make these amazing shelves found here). We chose paint colors that went with her wall and bedding – pink, mustard yellow, and of course the same purple as her accent wall) to paint the front piece of her book ledges. The painted part of the book ledges adds some color and fun to that wall. We also decided to do 2 book ledges above the desk for symmetry. These are used for notebooks, picture frames and other decor.

What do you guys think of Natalie’s finished room?
